Privacy in Job Hunting: Why Refine.tools Has No Database
Your career data is highly sensitive. Discover why we built Refine.tools to run entirely local-first without a database holding your data hostage.
When you upload your resume to a typical "Free Resume Builder", you are paying with your data.
Your employment history, your contact information, your skills, and where you live—all stored in a remote database, ready to be monetized, sold to third-party recruiters, or inevitably leaked in a data breach.
We fundamentally disagree with this model. That is why Refine.tools operates without a database.
The Local-First Architecture
We built Refine.tools to be a "Zero-Trust" Career Suite. Here is how our architecture protects you:
1. Ephemeral Processing
When you score a resume or decode a job description, your text is sent securely to our API to interface with AI models. We process the request, return the result, and immediately discard the data. Nothing is saved on our servers. Ever.
2. IndexedDB for Workspace features
You might notice that Refine.tools has a comprehensive "Career Dashboard" where your generated Cover Letters and Resumes are saved.
How does this work without a backend database? IndexedDB.
We use your browser's local storage engine to save your data on your machine. If you close the tab and come back tomorrow, your data is still there. But we, the creators of Refine.tools, cannot see it. Your career history never leaves your laptop.
3. Client-Side PDF Generation
When you build a resume and click "Download PDF", that PDF is assembled entirely in your browser using client-side rendering libraries. It is fast, secure, and private.
The Problem with Typical SaaS Builders
Most competitors offer a "free" tier that lets you build your resume, only to hit you with a $15/month paywall right when you try to download the PDF. Even worse, during that process, they require you to create an account, thereby trapping your data.
Refine.tools is an open, free alternative.
You don't need an account. We don't want your email. We just want to give you the tools you need to land your next role.
